Database Management System

Our lecturer started to explain definition of DATABASE and DMS (Database Management System). I didn’t know about what is DMS at all. But our lecturer gave us clear explanation and I realized that database and its fellows are very important for us. There are 4 types of physical database and another 4 of DMS. Under physical database, there are data item, relationships, constraints and schema. In relationships, there are three types of relationships. They are one to one, one to many and many to many. Under the DMS, first Define, create and organize a database, then, input data, process data, maintain data integrity and security, and query database.

Database system, it’s quite interesting for me. DMS software together with the database is called a database system. Also, we knew what database models are and that there are four types of database models. Moreover, there is a part which is difficult to understand. It’s database terminology. Under that topic, there are field which represent column of database table, record which represent row, key field which represent primary field, table which represent collection of record, relational database, and objects. And our lecturer showed us how the object relational database works out. It’s like tree or brunch system.
Our lecturer told us not to forget what data, DMS, what the 4 components is of database are and definition of relations, 3 types of relations and 4 types of database models. She taught us how to access and work with the Microsoft Access. I am happy to know how to use it. Then, she gave us in-class assignment and we did it.
Thank you.

Google Apps

Hello, again. Today I will tell you guys what we have learned about Google Apps. Our lecturer explained us web application (Google applications) and the examples of web development tools and Google apps in this week class. She gave us a clarification of Google apps. It is a service from Google providing independently customizable versions of several Google products under a custom domain name. I knew more than it from that course. We acknowledged about Google Plus +, Google Document, G-mail, Google Image, Google Books, Google Translate and others. These all are web tools and there are other applications that I knew in the time when she taught us this course.

And our lecturer explained us how to create own website in detail by using Google site where we can easily build and publish web sites and guided us to do a simple website. Then we got an assignment to create website by using Google site as a group job.

Thank you and don’t forget to come back later.

Triple W

What is WWW? Everybody knows that WWW is World Wide Web, but our lecturer explained us what is that WWW deeply. WWW is an application that uses those transport functions and service on Internet. I use daily webpage and website. But I didn’t know what they are actually before that class. Now, I knew the definition of webpage and website from this course.

A Webpage is just a part of Web site and a Web Site is a collection of related web pages found at a single address. This course helped me a lot. Then, our lecturer explained that there are six categories of web 2.0 sites. They are social networking, mashups, aggregators, social media, post casting and video casting and the last one as web applications. And we got deeply clarifications of those.
My lecturer explained what the web information systems or online information systems are. There are 2 types of web information systems that I knew from that course. They are informational and transactional system. That was a bit difficult to understand for me. Anyway, I knew much knowledge about web pages, types of webpage, web site and others more than before.

Thank you. Have a great day.

Information System Development Methodologies

How I understand about this topic? Ok, here is answer that Information System Development Methodologies (ISDM) is a collection of procedure, techniques, tools and documentation aids which will help the system developers in their efforts to implement a new information system. There are many different methodologies existing and used in systems development. A methodology is more than just a method or a process model. It is a work breakdown structure that provides guidelines of what to do and when to do it. It is technique on how to do what needs to be done. It is advice on how to manage the quality of the results. Different types of system development methodologies are used in designing information system. It depends on the actual requirement of the system.
Then our lecturer explained us the types of methodology and moved to information engineering (IE). We knew what Jackson System Development is and how it is. JDS is a method of system development that covers the software life cycle either directly or, by providing a framework into which more specialized techniques can fit. She taught us prototyping / interactive approach and structure approach (SDLC). SDLC, prototyping and JDS focus on data flow diagram (DFD). But IE is used to develop database. Then, she asked us to make a group in 3 members, to find one methodology and apply in a development system. We had done this as in class activities.

Thank you.

Information system

This is week (5) and in this week, we moved our class from ICT building to CFS building because of some problems. In this class, we made a kind of presentation what we had learned in the last class. In the previous class we learned about one kind of information system (TPS), so we presented our topic (TPS) how we understand, and every group presented their understanding of their topics like management information system (MIS), decision support system (DSS) and etc. After our presentation, lecturer explained all kind of information system.

TPS (transaction processing system)
-monitors, collect, store data to database
-process data generated
-operational: day to day information and operation
Scenario of TPS: barcode reader, self- check machine

MIS (management information system)
-an integrated collection of people, procedures, databases
-provide the right information to the right person at the right time
-tactical: structured decision
Eg. Sales management system, budgeting system

DSS (decision support system)
-used to support unstructured problems
-handle large amount of data from different sources
-mainly for tactical manager
-for complex situation and problems

EIS (executive information system)
-combination of above
-gain direct access information about company or organization
-only for the most senior manager
-strategically: future oriented and decision

ESS (expert support system)
-use in health system
-can be used by from low level to highest level
There are others information system like office support system, knowledge work system and so on and so forth.

Thank you for reading this post.

Transaction processing systems (TPS)

This is week (4) and in this week, we went to the library during class our and we were supposed to find some information about information system by group. Three students in one group and we could not use internet, we just supposed to use library books. My group’s topic is about TPS (transaction processing system). So, after little attempt we found some information about TPS that is a type of information system. It monitors, collect, store and process data generated from all business transactions of organization. TPS keep on organization running smoothly by automating the processing of the large amount of paper work that must be handled daily. This system include the accurate recording of management information system, the transaction processing system of an organization extending out of the organization linking together the entire financial system, factory, customers and suppliers. Then, we were supposed to submit and discuss with our lecturer what we had found. So, we discussed about our topic (TPS) how we understand this type of information system (TPS) and she provided more information and corrected some of our misunderstanding.I will explain about every information systems in next post.
Thank you so much. Have a nice day.

Information management Presentation

As I have already mentioned at the first post of this blog, we got one presentation about information management, problems related with it and solutions. We had to make this presentation by group, four students in one group. So I tried to find information for this topic with my group members. We went online, library and searched everything about this topic. Finally we got it and we could make power-point presentation for this topic. During class day, our group was the first group to present about information management. After our presenting finished, our lecturer asked one question that is “what is information system? Information management and information system are the same or not?”. Unfortunately, we couldn’t answer it but one female student answered that question for us. Anyway, we satisfied on that because we did, I think, very well. And we got a lot of knowledge about that topic from lecturer’s information and group job. I think that our presentation and all students’ presentation on that topic came from almost the same source because during presentation period I noticed that all students’ information about that are almost the same. Now I want to mention some information about that topic. Information management is the collection and management of information from one or more sources and the distribution of that information to one or more audiences. There are two parts on this, information and management. The actual information is a collection of data elements that are obtained by running query and report programs against a particular database or group of databases. Management means the control over the structure, processing and delivery of information. So the focus of information management is the ability to capture, manage, preserve, store and deliver the right information to the right people at the right time. That’s all for week two class.
Thank you for continuous reading on this post.

Getting start again

Hello, how are you?
We have already started our second trimester after two weeks holidays gone. Today I am going to talk about my first week IT class and what I have learned in that class. First of all, we were introduced the course outline, assessment, time table, lecturer’s information of IT subject and house rules. After that we studied about the difference between data and information, the economics and problems associated with information management. First, our lecturer explained us what is database, data and how it is used. Data is raw material and it's necessary for any outcome in IT field. Data are grouped and become information. Consequently, that information is contextualized and it's formed into knowledge that we are applying nowadays. So I know that data is raw facts means that it is an incomplete thing. When we collect the data, they will be information means that they are complete things. There's clearer format how data and information is working together. Observations and recordings are done to obtain data, while analysis is done to obtain information. Then, she explained about the economics of information. It's complicated and I needed to focus much. As a summary, Data can be processed to create useful information. Information is the manipulated and processed form of data. And we got the topic of information management to make presentation for next week class.
Thank you for reading this post.
