How I understand about this topic? Ok, here is answer that Information System Development Methodologies (ISDM) is a collection of procedure, techniques, tools and documentation aids which will help the system developers in their efforts to implement a new information system. There are many different methodologies existing and used in systems development. A methodology is more than just a method or a process model. It is a work breakdown structure that provides guidelines of what to do and when to do it. It is technique on how to do what needs to be done. It is advice on how to manage the quality of the results. Different types of system development methodologies are used in designing information system. It depends on the actual requirement of the system.
Then our lecturer explained us the types of methodology and moved to information engineering (IE). We knew what Jackson System Development is and how it is. JDS is a method of system development that covers the software life cycle either directly or, by providing a framework into which more specialized techniques can fit. She taught us prototyping / interactive approach and structure approach (SDLC). SDLC, prototyping and JDS focus on data flow diagram (DFD). But IE is used to develop database. Then, she asked us to make a group in 3 members, to find one methodology and apply in a development system. We had done this as in class activities.
Thank you.
